Welcome to the CVRC Home Page!
As the research-counterpart of the "Swiss Cardiovascular Center" at the
Bern University Hospital our laboratories run projects from basic molecular science
to clinical studies. It is our aim to link scientific research to the
clinical application, supporting the efforts of our surgeons and physicians
to give a new life to patients with a failing heart.
Pfizer Research Prize 2010
This year’s Pfizer research prize goes to Dr. Stefano Di Santo and Dr. Zijiang Yang. Both researchers work at the Department of Clinical Research of the University of Bern. With their work about a novel cell-free strategy for therapeutic angiogenesis they have shown that interventions based on EPC-secreted factors could effectively replace a cell transplantation. This cell-free strategy to stimulate vessel growth and tissue regeneration could therefore extend the treatment modalities for cardiovascular diseases, and enrich as a new tool the regenerative medicine. Congratulations to the winning team on its success!
